Brooke USA On The Road
About Animal Advocacy
Description
About Animal Advocacy is an informative presentation by Brooke USA’s vice chair Katherine Kaneb, detailing the effects of the donkey slaughter in Africa on human livelihoods and animal welfare, and Alfonso Lopez, Brooke USA’s federal lobbying consultant, advising listeners on personal actions that can help ban US sales of “ejiao,” the gelatin derived from donkey hides and used in traditional Chinese medicine. During the second half of the episode, Mary Alice Monroe, New York Times best-selling author discusses her passion for conservation, her book The Summer Guests, set amidst the equestrian community of Tryon, NC, and her recently released On Ocean Boulevard, a novel about one family’s summer of forging new beginnings.
The mission of Brooke USA is to significantly improve the welfare of working horses, donkeys and mules and the people they serve throughout Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the Americas and the Caribbean by raising funds and responsibly directing them to the areas of greatest need.
Brooke USA accomplishes this through a holistic approach to funding which includes capacity building, sustainability programming, female empowerment and international advocacy. Brooke USA connects private philanthropists with their passion for helping relieve the suffering of working equines and their owners. Brooke USA raises funds to support a wide variety of programs for working horses, donkeys and mules to help them become (and remain) healthy and happy, now and in the long-term, which also benefits the poor families who depend on those animals to help them earn a living.
